The Localist: London's new, up and coming restaurant deemed the answer to date night
No, we aren’t talking about a few pints down the pub… Farringdon based restaurant ‘The Localist’ is BGD’s Vicky’s answer to date night…
Upon entry we were escorted to our table with a perfect view of the evenings talent, Richard Hadfield who was singing modern music with a jazz edge which included some of Ed Sheeran’s famous songs. The restaurant boasts dim lighting, brick walls, blue plush chairs and hanging lights.
THE FOOD...
We were introduced to the GM of the restaurant Nikko and handed the evening menu: a european style menu flooded with healthy options and local produce. As I always ask for the recommendations Nikko suggested Josh and I try a few options from each section: snacks, starters and the main courses.
‘It is possibly the best meal I’ve ever had…’
Definitely a good choice recommending we try more than one option as I don’t think it would have been possible for me to pick between the ‘Steamed Edamame, Sweet Chilli & Paprika’ (£2.90) and the Padrón Peppers & Chilli Aioli (£4.50) which Josh and I shared. The aioli is a traditional Spanish mayonnaise with a chilli kick that explodes in your mouth but is contrasted by the sweet peppers – definitely our recommendation for the starter!
For our main courses I opted for the Pan Fried Sea Bream with Lemony Leaves (£16.00). I had been recommended this dish by Nikko and upon tasting it, I understood why. It was possibly the best fish I’ve ever had. The sea bream tasted fresh with a strong, salty taste which melted in the mouth. It arrived accompanied by a side salad which had an extremely detoxing, zesty kick.
OVERALL BIKINI GIRL'S LOVE:
The crispy courgette fries were probably my favourite dish – I love anything to do with courgette, so a spiralised twist and turned into fries had me very excited. Despite only being a snack, they were light, crispy and tasted way too good to be healthy! Partner this side with the sea bream and you’re in for a winner for less than £20.00.
However, make sure you leave room for dessert as with vegan cake options and lemon sorbet you can’t go wrong!
We finished the evening with a shot of Nocello: a delicious, nutty liqueur from Italy before heading home. Overall we rated this restaurant extremely highly and will definitely be returning.
We were invited to review at the Localist, but all views are as always my own.
