How to make it work for you:

Complexion is key

Every skin tone is unique and makes up a huge part of your look. The complexion of your skin is one of the most important aspects to consider when choosing the perfect colour – so determining your skin tone is important to establish first (well done if you have already!). Now, stop everything and examine your veins. Yes, your veins reveal all! If your veins appear blue or purple, you have a cool skin tone, while people with warmer skin tones have greenish veins. Now that you have your skin tone choose a hair tone with the opposite colour.

Warm skin tones crave ash or cool colours, while cool skin tones perfectly match with champagne, honey or chocolate colours

(yes I just described food, but I promise I’m still talking about hair!).

Try before you buy

Try before you buy – that has a sweet ring to our ears. So far we’ve mentioned common colours of blonde and brunette. But for those of you looking to go for a bold colour, we have the perfect way to see what a colour looks like before you go permanent. Here today, and gone after three washes – made possible with Schwarzkopf Professional’s BLONDME Instant Blushes. Available in Steel Blue, Strawberry and Ice, these pretty pastel colours only work on a blonde base. Once you find the right colour for you, give us a call and make that appointment! Don’t feel as though you need to go full throttle on your hair colour straight away. Meaning, you can do a semi-permanent colour that doesn’t open up your hair shaft before adding colour, which will fade after 2-3 weeks. The difference is that a permanent colour provides full coverage by changing the structure of your hair, lasting up to 8 weeks.

Don’t forget about you

Personal preference is important – so you must also consider what best suits your personality and personal style. Finding a hair colour that enhances your eye colour is another great way to find your unique tone.

Blue eyes love caramel/golden blonde tones, and green eyes are intensified by fiery or soft red tones. Make sure your final colour chosen is one that makes you feel confident, comfortable and beautiful.

Chat to your colourist

If you’re feeling a little overwhelmed or want a professional opinion, the colour specialists at Heading Out are here to help and ready to offer up advice.

A quick recommendation I’ll leave with you is this; stick to two shades lighter or darker than your natural hair, and you can’t go wrong

At Heading Out we’ll work with your preferences and inspirations to find, create and colour your brand new hair colour.

What’s your favourite recent colour trend, and why?

I’m still loving Bronde!

This unique combination of brown and blonde looks flattering on most skin tones.

Mixing the colours fuses the two colours to create a flattering sun-kissed end result.
