14 Apr Vitamin Injections: The Celebrity Craze Reviewed
What's a Vitamin Injection and WHY should we get them?
Vitamin injections have become increasingly popular over the past year. Celebrities including Rita Ora, Kim Kardashian, Cheryl Fernandez- Versini and Rihanna are all fans. But what do they actually do and are they really any better than taking supplements? Vicky found out…
Earlier this week I headed into Vitamin Injections London to see Bianca Estelle (clinical founder of Vitamin Injections London) located at 98 Crawford Street in Marylebone. Being a keen health nut I was already a big supplementer regularly taking my omegas, Vitamin D and occasionally a multi-vitamin.
“In the 500 microgram vitamin we are supplementing with we are only absorbing around 10 micrograms of that 500!”
Bianca began by asking me a few questions to understand the history of my diet and health. “I already take all of my supplements I’d protested – therefore I must be healthy.” Bianca explained to me that we actually hardly absorb any of the vitamin intake from supplements we take, so in the 500 micrograms (mcg) we are swallowing we are probably only absorbing around 10 mcg of it. This is where vitamin injections step in to save the day – when a vitamin is injected into the body we are actually absorbing 99.9% of the vitamin.
I had been vegan for a year previously (during prep up to bikini comp) and so was slightly deficient in my B vitamins. This she explained was apparent as the first issue I’d complained about was that I was so god damn tired ALL the time… Being a personal trainer I’m regularly up at early hours so had put it down to this. Bianca explained I would definitely benefit from the Intramuscular (IM) Vitamin B12 Energy Shot, which is an ideal pick-me-up for anyone who is feeling stressed, in need of a boost to their metabolism or in my case very fatigued.
Why would I benefit from a vitamin injection?
Vitamin B12 is found naturally in our bodies. It is vital for the adequate functioning of our digestive system and defends us against harmful viruses and bacteria so for a mostly plant-based eater who is naturally low in vitamin B12 this made a lot of sense.
I also suffer with regular reactions, my body is very sensitive and I often suffer with inflammation of the skin including eczema, psoriasis, and break outs. Bianca advised that I was probably deficient in vitamin C which helps to reduce inflammation and bacteria. She gave me a mix of vitamins for this injection named the ‘Baby Face IV’, this is the ultimate anti-ageing injection. It is derived from vitamin C, collagen extract (plant based), a mix of vitamin B complex and hyaluronic acid. The Baby Face injection is amazing at treating dry skin conditions such as eczema and dermatitis as well as helping nourish dry skin and even helping sun damage.
“I woke up the next day feeling amazing and I didn’t even need coffee!”
If, like me, you are one who is pretty scared of needles, (yes, I’m a big baby) then you needn’t worry. You barely feel the injection at all and it’s so quick it’s finished before you even ask ‘how long’.
How do you feel after?
Immediately after the injection I felt fine, if not slightly energised (not quite sure if that’s a placebo effect though). I was advised to drink two litres of water over the next couple of days after the injection. I slept extremely well that night, having really struggled with sleep the past few days, which again was a pleasant addition. The next morning I woke up genuinely feeling amazing and I’m not just saying this – I didn’t even need coffee!
It’s been three days post injection now and I’m still feeling really fresh, energised and my motivation to train in the gym is higher than ever too. I’m surprised that it has made this much of a difference and impact on me which really does make me understand why celebrities are such addicts as well as proving to me that I probably was deficient in these vitamins despite supplementing after all. I am definitely hooked and will be returning to get my vitamin fix again.
