5 Ways to make every workout a good one
When it comes to exercising its not always the smoothest journey – we all have good intentions. Hence the busiest time of the year for gym goers is January in the ‘new year, new me’ phase that slowly wilts away as Spring arrives.
So, how can we ensure that we are getting the most out of our workouts and are there any top secrets that can be revealed?
Well, I don’t know about secrets but over my time as a personal trainer and avid gym bunny I’ve definitely learnt a few tricks of the trade I swear by…
1. Pre-workout
Now, this isn’t essential but if you get to the point that your calories are slightly depleted and you’re finding it harder and harder to get out of bed on those gloomy mornings and constantly hitting that snooze button or getting home after work and finding the sofa a lot more inviting than the gym then something has to change.
Pre-workout is filled with caffeine and will give you that extra buzz you need to not only get to the gym but smash your workout as well.
I take Optimum Nutrition’s Watermelon Flavour Pre-Workout available here.
2. Sleep
Oh, haven’t we all heard that one before? But seriously sleep is so important. Try to get those vital 8 hours as they really will make such a difference.
Whilst on my competition I found that on days that I didn’t get enough sleep I would eat more than I should and skip my workouts. Struggling to switch off? Try taking a magnesium supplement to help aid sleep and reduce stress levels.
3. Make a plan to succeed
Turning up to the gym might be a great start, but turning up without a plan for your workout is another way to fail. Plan what you’re going to train n advance and stick to it!
Separate your sessions into different days, whether upper body, lower body, arms, legs – however works for you, just make a plan for your workout to guarantee a good session.
4. Wear something that makes you feel BANGING
Come on ladies I know you are probably cracking up at this last one – BUT it’s TRUE!! How many times have you felt ultra confident in your LBD’s and high heels? Every time. So, why is the gym different?
Stick on something that makes you feel hot, confident and in control. This way you will have so much confidence hitting the gym floor and won’t be afraid to push your way into the weights room, no matter how many big bodybuilder men are looming in there.

5. Eat right....
Now this may seem irrelevent as you are looking for ways to have a good “workout” but actually if you eat right you are twice as likely to have a good workout because you will feel dedicated and on track to achieving your results.
Psychologically eating right will keep you motivated to train as well as providing you with the correct macronutrients and micronutrients to stay in peak health to do your best in the gym.
