04 May New Mum Shopping Guide: Maternity and Baby Gifts
Welcome to my ultimate shopping guide for new mums – just in time for Mother’s Day in Australia!
With just 4-5 weeks until my baby comes, it’s all getting very real! I’ve been in a bit of a panic buying mode. What will I need now, at the hospital, and as a new mum with a tiny human? You can read up on my second trimester essentials – many of which still apply! – and my review of the Nuna Demi Grow stroller. Now, I bring you my third-trimester essentials and must-have items for new mum and baby ahead of Mother’s Day. Here are the gifts I am loving at the moment.
the memo
I adore baby site the memo – it’s the ideal online shop for a mum-to-be or if you’re looking to buy a baby shower gift. In fact, they’ve got a specially curated Mum list right here. The Australian site stocks many eco-friendly, unique brands and nursery items such as changing mats and wallets, washable or bamboo towelling nappies – even swim nappies. Check out our favourite Mother’s Day items from the memo below.
L-R I’m loving the Baby BeeHinds all-in-one cloth nappy with 6 fleece layers! It’s so soft, perfect for a newborn baby’s skin. Then the bamboo towelling nappies from Bubba Blue, which come with a fastener too, and the swim nappy from Baby BeeHinds. I love the coral colour but there are 7 to choose from. Finally the Skip Hop nappy wallet in this stylish zig zag pattern and the large sturdy yet soft foam change mat from Leander – which are both super easy to clean!
Belly Bandit
Belly Bandit is the bestselling brand that offers comfortable and effective prenatal and postnatal solutions for mothers. Available in Australia and worldwide, the collection comprises maternity support belts, leggings, tops and much more. With special C-section support items and nursing tops and bras, you’ll find the ideal gift for mums-to-be with pelvic girdle pain and pressure on the bladder, plus new mums concerned about muscle separation post-birth. I tried the Upsie Belly, $109.99, to lift my belly off my bladder and relieve some lower back pain, and I’ve been loving it so far. I’m planning to wear the Mother Tucker Leggings and Luxe Belly Wrap once I have my baby in a few weeks to help with recovery.
Bfree
Bfree make beautiful maternity bamboo solutions ideal for prenatal and postnatal needs. We love the lingerie nursing bras and camis, and especially the super-soft, comfortable maternity knickers which are going straight in the hospital bag! Check out our favourite Bamboo Nursing Bra + High Cut Undies Set and Bamboo Nursing Camisole with Built In Bra. Gentle bamboo is ideal for sore, cracked nipples, and the tops feature wire-free support and a one-hand nursing clip with drop cup, plus an interior support sling, making them ideal for breastfeeding. Seamless construction throughout the collection minimises irritation.
The Comfy
As Australia rolls into cooler Autumn temperatures, baby daddy Andrew and I have decided to stay warm and cosy with the Dream Wearable Blankets from The Comfy, and, oh wow. The Dream is a super-soft, luxurious giant hoodie and a must-have for Mother’s Day and gifting in general. With a buttery, baby-blanket soft fabric and slouchy shape, it’s the ideal comforter for mums-to-be, all mothers, and for all seasons. The product is machine washable and fine to go in the tumble dryer, plus the material is vegan-friendly and comes up bigger and a men’s 5XL – so it’s a true one size fits all! I love the giant hood, huge front pocket and cuffed sleeves. We got a light grey colour for me, army green camo for Andy – and now we live in them!
Noonie Australia
Noonie Australia make botanical padsicles and perineum spray – a perfect post-birth gift to provide soothing comfort for new mums. The innovative Cleanse & Soothe Perineal Spray is all-natural and meant to soothe and cleanse the vulva and perineum (skin and muscle separating vagina and anus). Suitable for bathroom time and shower time during postpartum recovery, it sprays upside down, so you can easily mist your noonie from any position. Meanwhile, the organic cotton Cooling Padsicles provide instant relief for tears, stitches, swelling etc. I am excited to use these products!. I’m told the pads don’t need freezing – just ‘pop’ and the chill will come on instantly.
Grow Haircare
The Grow Haircare Longer Stronger collection is a great idea for the mum who loves a pamper. I’m preparing for that infamous period of time after baby when your lush hair falls out. All the glory of flowing pregnancy locks is, apparently, temporary. Luckily, Grow Haircare has just launched some exciting new products on the market, such as a Stimulating Scalp Scrub. The product eliminates impurities whilst invigorating and purifying, leaving your scalp balanced and restored. Formulated with natural sea salt and peppermint oil, the scrub detoxes, refreshes and restores balance. I’m planning to use this alongside the iconic Shampoo and Conditioner to minimise hair loss.
